It is Itam market day, a famous market day in my hometown. It opens early in the morning, taking turns on different days each week.
People of different ages go there to buy and sell. Tax collectors don't forget their wages, and the sellers rain abuses on them.
Tricyclists are seen around, looking for passengers to carry. Clothes, shoes, fruits and food, to mention but a few, are always in abundance.
The traders sit in groups according to their goods. Calling on buyers with pet-names, they appear to be in a race.
You can be easily manipulated by them to buy what you never planned to. For twelve hours, all roads lead to Itam market.
Even people from other cities come here to buy and sell, irrespective of the transport fare. This is where you buy secondhand goods at cheap prices.
At about six o'clock in the evening, the sellers are packing their wares, while the buyers are rushing home. This is because the market is gated.
Some traders stay back to sell outside the market arena, and they always have people to sell to. At this time, the goods are less cheaper.
All the same, if you miss today, you have to wait till the following week, that is, if you really care. It is always an unforgettable experience.
A day I always look forward to, the day of our popular Itam market; from my childhood and upward, where goods arrive before the sun rises!
