It Starts With Curiosity - Part 8

When things got out of her control, she resorted to learn kitchen skills and carry out domestic chores, which she should have done earlier.
All her newly attempted efforts to please her in-laws proved ineffectual. They wanted grandchildren, not a glorified home assistant.

Questions were raised about her presupposed business, as she no longer went on trips. She told them that she had decided to become a full-time housewife. Needless to say, she was mocked by her in-laws. Momma continued to encourage her, while her friends automatically deserted her.

Although she was a chorister and kept up appearances in the church, spiritualism wasn't her thing. Caught in this situation however, she sometimes muttered words synonymous to prayers. When alone, she cried her eyes out and wished she could wash away the stains of her raunchy past lifestyle from her skin.

Evenings scared her because she knew they'd further lead to sleepless and tormented nights. Each time she shut her eyes, she had a horrific dream, which repeated itself every night.
In the dream, she wore a white dress, numbly sprawled in a pool of blood and tiny, bizarre creatures laid around her. Those bizarre creatures shrieked and desired strongly to touch her, but they weren't trying to hurt her. There seemed to be an unseen wall between her and the creatures. Every night, she woke up sweating bullets, crying and shaken.

She was still battling her demons when her husband informed her of his plans to marry a second wife. She had earlier heard the rumors but, she had dismissed them.  At that moment, she felt as though a bucket of ice water was poured on her. She looked at her husband teary-eyed, and all she saw was stark reality staring back at her. She told her husband to give her some time and he looked at her with a look that questioned how long she needed, other than the past years of nothing to show. After some minutes of silence, he walked away.

She immediately reached out to Momma, her siblings and in-laws. She fixed a meeting and pleaded with them to show up. Later that day, as she told her husband about the meeting, he busily hummed a tune. While she waited for the meeting day to arrive, she pondered on what they'd do to her when they finally knew who she truly was. The dream recurred and it was gradually driving her insane.

On the D-Day, everybody she had invited showed up, including her husband. Her in-laws were divided in different groups, engrossed in whispers. After they were all seated, she said  'There are things you should know.'
