THE LAST DARE

I remember that climb.
My heart pounded hard,
I thought everyone heard.
Halfway up, I froze.
I was too scared to continue.
But, I knew I couldn't go back.

I'd never hear the end of it.
So I kept climbing up and up.
Would I make it home safely?
I shivered, thinking of how
Unbelievably stupid I was
For accepting Glory's dare.

The day before, I arrived Uyo
To spend the holidays at home.
Oh, I was beyond super excited
To see my family and friends.
Glory and I went sightseeing.
She challenged me to jump
From the high dive.

The next thing I knew,I was
Standing in line with Glory
Beside me, explaining how to
Commit a "suicide". I just
Looked at her,thinking, I don't
Have to try to do a "suicide".

All I have to do is walk off
The board, and I'll die.
Talk about your dumb dares.
This one was certainly at the
Top of the list. Thankfully, it
Was a dream when I woke up.

I was so glad, but I was a little
Mad at myself for having gone
Through something so terrifying
Just so that I wouldn't seem like
A chicken. That was  when i made
Up my mind that I'll never be...

Pushed into doing anything I'm
Scared of, never! Everything I do
Will be for me, because I want to,
And not to prove anything to
Anyone. And neither should you.
